"Jazz'n King of Swing" featuring Mack Goldsbury and The New Impressions at Lancers East with pianist, Mike Francis
On Sunday April 26, 2009, JazzElPaso Connection in cooperation with Lancer's East presented the timeless sounds of Benny Goodman.
International artist, Mack Goldsbury brought Benny Goodman to life with his perfect renditions of classic Goodman tunes. It is rare when one can hear the music of the great Benny Goodman performed live. It's fine to listen to recordings, but nothing compares to hearing these great tunes delivered to perfection on stage, and that is what the lucky members of the audience were treated to with this concert.
Along with Mack , playing keys, was guest artist, Mike Francis. Mike is a virtuoso of the black and whites and his performance on the electric piano added to the classic sound of the 30's & 40's era music. The New Impressions group, composed of Ricky Malachi on drums, Curt Warren on electric guitar, and Eric Unsworth on stand up bass, really made this performance swing. The members of this group are all music educators, and all are very accomplished musicians in their own rights. Ricky’s drum solo on "Sing, Sing, Sing" was marvelous. It was easy to imagine that Gene Krupa was in the room, ..and.. in a way…..he was. Thanks for the great job Ricky! Curt’s guitar was, as always, very cool and smooth, and Eric always plays it just right. A great concert for lovers of this genre of jazz music. Thanks again to Lancer's for making their awesome club available for these fine performances. Be sure to check out our web site's Calendar for more of these fine concerts. - Ken Vaughan
